My mom taught me to crochet when I was around ten or so... and then again when I was 21. I really do enjoy it. But I have never really gotten out of the scarf stage. I have made a few very simple blankets... but nothing to complicated. I can pretty much do one or two stitches. I have decided to try and properly learn the craft. I picked up this book:

I figured this is the simplest way to walk my way through it. I am currently making the coasters and placemats. They had them in a really funky color scheme, but I went with a varigated yarn in some fall like colors. Very pretty. I am a liitle worried because they are turning up a little in the corners.. but maybe once i press them they will be ok. I'll post a finished set when they are done.

Aren't you excited?? Ah, I knew you would be! It's me again. I'm back on Livejournal after a very long abscence. In fact, I haven't been on here for so long that they purged my old account! Well, its always good to start fresh anyway. I've lost all my old friends on here... but I'm sure we will find each other.

For those of you who don't know me, My name is Kel. I'm a mommy. I've got the coolest six year old girl that has ever graced the planet.. and don't try to tell me any different. It is a fact, researched and proven and we've got the trophy to prove it. She likes to read and she loves music, just like her momma. (and her momma is way cool... of course. I hold the previous "coolest six year old " title.)

I will use this livejournal account just like my old one... for rambling about nothing and everything. I am a chronic list-writer and you will be accosted with constant numbered posts of random thoughts. They will make no sense to anyone but me... but I need an outlet.

Just to start things off, here is one:

Random Things that make me happy:
1. My family. my hubbs, my daughter and I make the perfect trifecta.

2. My dogs , Dexter and Daisy. Dexter is a highly neurotic, very nervous, very cuddly and highly aggressive little pug with obvious anger management issues. Daisy is a giant Airedale with a high tolerance for pain and annoying little dogs with massive underbites.

3. the fact that my kid goes around the house singing "sheena is... a punk rocker.! sheena is...." (the Ramones for you poor readers who don't recognize that lyric) She very much prefers rock to corny barney songs and such... Although we are in the midst of fighting off the Hannah Montana plague that is currently affecting all six year old girls. (is there a vaccine for that??)

4. coffee.. lots of it ... hot, cold, blended... flavored, plain... whipped cream or none. you can't go wrong with caffeine.

5. books...... I read one or two a week. I listen to them in the car, before bed, and when I am cleaning. I snuggle with my little girl under balnkets and whisper scary stories, giggle at silly ones and sigh over romantic endings. Nothing beats a good story.

6. Music. I am trying to overcome my music snobbish-ness. I have my old faves and I try not to judge others by their choices. (although, really? people like garth brooks? ) I like discovering new music and bands. I love beautiful lyrics and acoustic guitars.

7. Singing in the car with my hubby... we get totally silly and do things that we would never do in front of anyone else. (pass the mike....and lots of kicks and air punching)

8. Life in general... I've got it good. Things get to me sometimes and there are days when nothing goes right (yesterday for example... kid puking in Macy's anyone?? good times... ) But when I think of what I have and what I could have ended up with if fate took a wrong turn... well, I'm a lucky gal.
